Thomas and friends Skiff - TrainMan2001 - 01-30-2015

Hi everyone. I just read on the TWR wiki a that Skiff is a SAILBOAT who rides on the RAILS. Anyone else who doesn't like the idea?

Do you have a link Trainman2001? I am curious.

There are no pictures available yet, I thought that red vertical boiler loco that is coming soon was Skiff but I now believe he is called Ryan. I very much dislike the idea of a train boat, I don't believe such a thing exists in the real world.

the closest i know of for a "train boat" are the ferries which have rails in their bellies. engines etc drive into them and then out again on the other side. the ferry stays on the water, naturally.

Yes the idea of a boat that is a train would be bad at both tasks, too heavy to float, too light to haul trains.

Don't really know what to say about Skiff. He sounds like another Flynn but I wonder how he would work.

Then, when it comes to making him into a toy, I can't imagine he'd be successfully made. Don't think he'll be in TrackMaster, but maybe he might work in Plarail and get designed like Winston. Of course I can't really be saying anything serious about him when that description is all that I know.

From my understanding it serves the purpose of a pump-trolley type of thing. It's more of an inspection car (like Winston) than an actual boat or locomotive. It runs on rails but is powered by a sail. I don't have any pictures but I remember seeing a pic.

Not my cup of tea, but then again I'm not a fan of crossovers, flyn should stick to the road...... It would be nice to see more stories without feeling the need to introduce new characters, my son has a boxed set of books at around 70 volumes, I'd say at least 60 are character stories, I'd much rather they did new stories with old engines rather than a new character everytime, I might be old school but the old characters are the best by far (I probably feel like this because I was brought up on Ringo Starr narrating the series)

Maybe they mean more like the old Brighton sea Railway,

That is the funniest thing I have seen today Tramp Wink

Ucwepn, I believe that is a sport now where people make their own cars to travel the abandoned railways. I have seen a few YouTube videos of this. Don't know how far they would go if the wind is in their face though. Wink
