How many TNA James are there really, some say 3, some say 4? Who really knows? How can one tell them apart, who says what phrases? UK / US / Japanese / Different voice actors? Help!

Yes, you're right, there's only 3 versions of Talk 'n' Action James.
I can only tell which is one from the other with the voices.
UK starts with
"I'm James! Let's go!"
US starts with
"I'm James, and I'm the number 5 red engine"

No, the US version was only voiced by one voice actor, which is Robin Smith.

I remember someone said the Alec Baldwin voiced one of the TNA locos.

Robin and Alec sound very similar for their James voices, and many people said the US TNA’s were the “Alec Baldwin” versions, that was before it was revealed it was actually Robin Smith who did the voices
