What tables do you guys use for your trains? - SoupyGunzilla - 11-19-2024 It's my first time having room for actual tables for my trains and tracks, I was wondering what everyone would recommend. I don't really want to build my own so I was thinking of getting a couple of fold-able tables and putting fake grass over it to have it look better. If there are better options or even a thread on these forums about this, I would love to know. Sorry if I'm posting in the wrong section, I'm not use to posting in forums LOL RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Super - 11-19-2024 Hi Soupy Took you awhile before your first Post but we are glad you have now decided to join in. A suggestion is to take photos as you progress even if you make changes as you go alone as its fun to go back and see your progression. I Bought folding tables from Walmart a few years ago. You can see the results in the video below. They are 30 inches wide by 6 foot long. I held them together by buying cheap, small, 'C' Clamps from Harbor Freight which help keep the transition between tables smooth with no bump plus they don't shift if you accidentally bump into one. Took me a while to find this type of grass as the first ones I tried the grass blades were much too high so the tracks and scenery pieces would sit correctly. It was outdoor grass so I gave those to some RV'r friends to use at camp sites. EDIT: Wow...I just looked at Walmart to see the current price of the tables I bought and in just a few years the price has almost doubled...Geesh RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - SoupyGunzilla - 11-20-2024 Thank you so much for the advice, I didn't think about the clamps, I'll 100% be doing that. Planning to buy at least one table in the next week to see how it'll look. I liked your layout video, I checked out some of your other videos as well and you got some good stuff RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Super - 11-20-2024 You may also like some of my other stuff to Soupy https://www.blueplastictracks.org/thread-14.html RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Super - 11-20-2024 Correction: I did not use 'C' Clamps from Harbor Freight as those type of clamps did not fit where they had to go under the tables. It took me weeks of searching for what would work in my eyes and the result is in the picture below. For the life of me I can't figure out where I got them from or the brand. I have looked at all my usual sites but could not locate them. Anyone recognize the brand color of yellow and blue? RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Densha - 12-15-2024 Some people call those "F" clamps. Down here they often have a red handle. Available twice a year at Aldi or anytime at some Chinese cheap shops or, as a last resort, at any big hardware store. RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Super - 12-15-2024 I wish I could remember where I got mine from as most I searched and tried were either too long where the bar wouldn't fit, the pads were too small and wouldn't fit or the front part was too big or designed to where it wouldn't fit or grab properly or the bar was too long for the space. After trying several, and returning several styles this was the only ones that fit the bill but I can't remember where I purchased them....hmmm..the color of mine makes me think they are Irwins but I don't see that name on mine or see them on their site. RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Trainsplarailvhs - 12-15-2024 I use these tables for my layout. Cranky and the docks is a good example of how long they are. I got them from an adult arcade/bar and my dad showed me the tables he wanted but I decided on these bigger ones when I saw them and I knew what I wanted to do. RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Super - 12-15-2024 Very sturdy looking tables T-Plar 👍 RE: What tables do you guys use for your trains? - Trainsplarailvhs - 12-16-2024 They are very sturdy tables for how they were built. I was using folding tables at one point before I got these. |
