Lubrication of a Plarail gearbox (modern type with light) - JustTylerHere - 07-29-2024 Ever since I got my 0 series shinkansen I noticed it wasn't running very well and would slow down considerably the longer I used it. Yesterday, when I wanted to run it again, it didn't start moving after pressing the on switch, only after I helped it by turning the wheels would it start up. So, I opened it up to see what I could do! After taking of the housing, you'll need to unscrew these screws. This should remove the back battery cover and the piece covering the light mechanism. Once you removed the cover over the light, there's one more screw that needs to be removed. The final step before taking the top part off is to undo this clip on the right side of the chassis. You should now have access to the gears. Be careful, as the gears can easily fall out of the chassis. I carefully took out each gear and cleaned them with an old toothbrush dipped in soapy water. For lubrication, I used a Trix 66626 grease on the gears and used some Peco PowerLube on both shafts of the motor. After reassembly, it runs great!
