Paint match for Plarail Thomas running board? - TechnicalFresh - 06-27-2023
Trying to find a paint match for Plarail Thomas' running board. I got one in otherwise good condition, just there's a bit of red on the lamp and it bothers me. Any suggestions?

I remember others paint matching running boards but don't remember who or where. For some reason I am recalling someone using the inexpensive Acrylic Paint from Walmart or was it Hobby Lobby...I could be wrong but that is what first came to mind. I may be confusing this story with the gray running board Thomas...what color is yours Tech?

if you cannot find the correct shade, you may want to consider paint the running board as well. hard to tell the difference really

paint match by mixing grey paint and white until you get the perfect shade of light/dark grey.

even if you know which shade of grey the engine has, it won't match the baseboard exactly as paint fads over time. my car had a partial repaint after an accident repair, the car dealership knows which shade of grey my car uses but it was unable to make the partial repaint blend in to the rest of the vehicle.

apple barrel's Dolphin Gray is a good starting base. The hue may change depending on whether you're painting a TOMY or Trackmaster running board. Like Therealblack64YT said, just lighten/darken depending on what you're matching. But Imo, unless you're doing very small touch ups, you should repaint the entire board from scratch because of exactly what leylandvictory2 has stated. Preferably with an air brush.

I might add that if there's a lot of cracks or anything on the paint sand the surface so that when you paint it it looks flat and good because if you don't the original cracks will be showing on the other coat but from what I can gather from the post the lamp has a little bit of paint missing a touch up there would probably be the easiest route without painting the whole thing.

Thats the paint that I couldn't remember that I had heard about from before. Now I have to remember where that is sold....Walmart??? 😒
