Terence the Tractor Cracked Gear - gmeehanfilms - 12-18-2022 Hey all! I recently acquired a Tomy Terence the Tractor, and found this gear has a crack in it: Does anyone know what this type of plastic gear is called? As I'm not sure which is the correct gear to buy to replace it. Cheers! RE: Terence the Tractor Cracked Gear - mitzalplik - 12-18-2022 I'm sorry gmeehanfilms, I've never owned a TOMY version of Terrence the Tractor so I don't have first and experience opening an examining the gears of that specific toy. If I recall, all HiT versions of road vehicles have all the same gears inside of it and the one TOMY vehicle I have is Lori1 and it is similar to the other HiT road vehicles. That being said that gear actually looks similar to one of the gears in a flat drive unit (the one that specifically drives the wheel axle) so if you have a spare flat drive unit you might want to compare those two gears to see if they match so you can replace it with that. Otherwise, if that's not the case could you show us where that cracked gear goes in your Terrence the Tractor since I don't have one of my road vehicles opened up right now for me to see if that specific gear is also in hit road vehicles. I have a picture of one of my road vehicles opened up with the gears exposed but I can't see the gears underneath the primary gears on top to know for sure. RE: Terence the Tractor Cracked Gear - gmeehanfilms - 12-18-2022 Yes I believe it is a flat drive unit, as the gear is closest to the wheel. One of the only other vehicles I have has the same cracked gear in it. I'll have to see if I can find the right gear, though having no luck so far. RE: Terence the Tractor Cracked Gear - mitzalplik - 12-19-2022 I didn't even notice based on my picture that peice had 2 separate gears and you'll see why when I upload the pic Seller left this in pretty neglected shape I know, but yeah it hid the separation. Now that I see it, I don't think your cracked gear is the same shape as one you would find in a flat drive unit Trackmaster 1 train; I'm almost certain now. I haven't researched gears like that to buy replacements for myself so I don't have a link to those replacement gears. Looks like you have 2 solutions. Either to superglue that gear together (compress the gear teeth as tightly as you can before the glue dries, also make sure you don't use to much glue, you don't want dry residue around the teeth otherwise you'll hear noises when running), Or you can buy the cheapest Trackmaster/TOMY road vehicle and swap parts (I'd go for cheapest road vehicle). You ARE rolling the dice when buying used but that gear being cracked is not a common occurrence for what CAN go wrong with used road vehicles. But again there may be other solutions out there, this is just what I would do with my experience. |
