11:00 PM delivery!?!? - MuddyPoppins - 11-13-2019

I thought I’d share a bit of info...
First let me say that I love Amazon.jp...their prices and pre-orders cannot be beat.
I have never had a problem with them( and luckily still haven’t), but they use DHL delivery rather than UPS or USPS.
While tracking the newest Plarail Flying Thomas set, DHL said Tuesday, but the Amazon.jp said Wednesday, so before going to bed, I figured it would be here Wednesday.
BUT, at 10:05 PM a white van pulls up in front of my house...I get out of bed, and look at the security monitor... its DHL leaving my package unsigned for, (obviously without a knock because it’s pitch black out) and unattended alone on my porch. Thankfully (I guess) the van had woken me, or it would have sat out all night in a drizzle...or gotten snatched.
Thats pretty sketchy delivery service.

Courrier drivers have a quota to meet everyday. So I guess a snow storm may cause a delay in deliveries.

Speaking of DHL, I have a bizzare incident. So 2 items were expected on the same day. I figure they would either give me 2 notices of pick up or dump 2 parcel in front of my house. Only smaller item was dumped in front of my house and I have to go to their pick up depot to pick up the other parcel.

I am use to getting Mail (USPS) very late at night, especially this time of year but never packages from the big 3 delivery services (UPS, Fedex & DHL). 10:00pm is way too late in my opinion especially in this day and age of porch pirates. I wouldn't think you were hit with a snow storm like us that slowed deliveries in your climate so I wonder why and I also wonder what their Policy's and training are for time.

Back when I was a shipping and receiving manager, DHL was the sketchiest of the small package carriers. I see that hasn’t changed much in 25-ish years! Eventually, RPS, later Fed Ex Ground, would give them serious competition for who sucks the worst.

Yeah, 10:00 PM is a bit too late to be delivering packages. While I realize there are a host of factors contributing to this, it’s really a poor way to do business. I wonder what they’ll do when the big Christmas rush hits? 2:00 AM deliveries?

RE: 10:00 PM delivery!?!? - Super - 11-14-2019

Muddy, aren't you supposed to sign for those packages or did you wave that?

RE: 10:00 PM delivery!?!? - MuddyPoppins - 11-15-2019

Yes Super...I specifically made sure NOT to wave signing, so that it would have required a signature.
Amazon.jp has made a poor choice in carriers, and now I am nervous about ordering from them again. Sad

Muddy I would definitely contact DHL customer service about this. Sure, you’ll probably get some boilerplate excuses but it definitely isn’t acceptable. I’m not sure if contacting Amazon Japan would help but it might be worthwhile.

Barring that, if you have security camera video, post it on your YouTube channel and offer it to the local media! THAT will get their attention!

Side note: A family member of mine is a lower level executive at Fed Ex. Several years ago, when the security camera footage of the driver dumping a large monitor over a fence made the news, the damage control was pretty intense! And that was just a single case that got some media attention. Some of the crap you don’t hear about is even more incredible!

RE: 10:00 PM delivery!?!? - Super - 11-15-2019

That is weird as a package can't be delivered when a signature can't be obtained. I have dealt with DHL Customer Service and for me, they have been very good but I assume that calling them to explain the situation might not be in your best interest if he is your regular delivery person. So now the question would be that if the package required a signature did he forge yours? Can't you check Online to see if and who signed for the package by the tracking number?

RE: 11:00 PM delivery!?!? - MuddyPoppins - 11-15-2019

Oh my!
Its actually even worse...I edited the post title too!!
Super I just went back and investigated the original DHL tracking email to see what I could find...
Evidently my “front door” has hands and can read and write, so it signed for the package at 11:06 PM.

I wonder if he didn't realize his mistake about not getting a signature until an hour after he delivered it, like when he got back to the DHL Office and was downloading his Tablet for the work for the day and then falsified it. At any rate completely unacceptable doubly, for the time delivered and not getting a signature.
