I would recommend some of the boxcars you can find on jauce, and maybe some of the coaches. The only passenger coaches I can recommend are from the AmTrak Super Spiral set, which are very much scarce on any online auction site.

Why not mixed freight? Get some plarail flatcars with shipping boxes (they are like 10 bucks on eBay) and maybe some other rolling stock like vans, ect.

You can easily find them on eBay . Jut type in Plarail or Trackmaster Cars and RollingStock and there you go! I would recommend looking more at the plarail cars and vans as they seem more American in their freight look.

I would recommend these. These seem pretty good for it.
