Nothing that special, but... - Nigels - 01-17-2019

I was browsing eBay the other night looking for something entirely different and stumbled across a job lot of primarily Tomy Hypercity stuff, anyway bottom line for the princely sum of £15 + shipping I got these;

That's two 3 car Shinkansens (the one towards the back is a bit tatty with marks all over it), a Spencer in silver which looks brand new, a used but serviceable Stepney and a bunch of wagons a couple which need a new coupling.  The main reason I bought this lot was primarily for the motorised chassis as then I have some spares to build new bodies onto as I develop them - the Daisy shell for example fits on the Shinkansen loco's chassis's but unfortunately being a bit shorter than Diesel10/Boco the standard coupling just isn't quite long enough, although of course I could knock up some custom ones Smile

Along with the above there is also a box full of track and accessories;

Not bad for the price methinks Smile

Dang, that’s a really nice haul!

That is some nice stuff but I don't see any Hypercity items unless those are some road pieces in the box.

the bullet trains, clear tunnel and long level crossing were all marketed as tomica hypercity, possibly to a select few western countries. we got them in nz, australia had them as the uk. not sure about canada?

nice haul, nigel! i am a tad addicted to the clear tunnels. they are perfect at shows to put something fascinating front and centre but also prevent people from touching.

Hi Super,

As Sun says, in the UK anything 'Shinkansen/Real World' as well as the special police etc... stuff were marketed here as Hypercity, no idea why. Maybe because it makes them sound futuristic and it was an attempt to grab the slightly older audience or keep the youngsters interested as they grew older and perhaps away from Thomas (as if Smile)...

Oh...Okay, now I see. Since these were also offered as individual Plarail trains I didn't relate. But now that I see Suns pictures I now recall that I bought a few of these under the Tomica Labels and in boxes like Sun shows. I believe it was the very first Bullet Train my Grandson and I bought, the E3 Komachi, the Skyliner, my Grandsons favorite and our first long Bullet, the 6 unit Kyushu Series 800
