bird bird bird, bluebirds the word - sunhuntin - 01-05-2019

i picked these up on a local auction site a few days before christmas. they finally arrived two days ago, amazingly in good shape despite being sent in a bag with NO packaging at all. was worried they would be cracked, but everything is ok.

these cases are dated 1997 and made by bluebird, the same company that made the old school polly pocket playsets.

i got them for $30, and they are 100% complete, impressive for the age and size of the pieces. so tiny, they make the minis look gigantic.

the thomas case is the most complex of the two and has a much better track design

harold can attach to the antenna, and the dial underneath rotates it. another dial rotates the track by the engine shed. the james set also comes with less parts than thomas.

Those are so cool and small. How big is the case folded up? I wonder if these could be made in todays world with such small parts unless the age is for much older children. Do you know how many different sets they made?

including the clip that holds them closed, they are 11cm when closed, and close to 25cm when open.

i know they are re-releasing the classic polly pockets right now, but i dont know the age group, likely 7 and up? the old ones were designed for older kids rather than preschoolers, and the thomas ones wouldnt be any good for youngsters. aside from the small parts, the trains are tricky to keep on the track when pushing them around. indeed, they would be under adult supervision only.

Wow...11cm...that puts it in perspective to how small this is for me. It really is a Pocket Train Set.

Now that really is cool, I love all these miniature things, wish they did still make stuff like this Smile

that they are, super. i took them out with me the other night and put them in my backpack, using the pocket designed for drink bottles. they fit perfectly with a bit of room to spare.

same, nigels. i know bluebird also made a dr who set, shaped like a tardis. lol. its good they are re-releasing the classic polly pockets, but i doubt mattel would allow them to make thomas ones.
