Lionel Tin Wind Up - Super - 10-28-2018

This was an accident..........no really, it was Confused

While searching around for customizing parts on Ebay I stumbled upon this Lionel Santa-Fe Super Chief Shunting Wind-up tin toy new in its box. When checking others like it I found that this one was for sale at less than half of what used ones were going for and much less than new in its box. Seeing as I love this kind of stuff and its one of my favorite train, the Santa-Fe Super Chief, I made an offer and it was accepted. Further investigation showed that they had made several of these featuring different engines and themes. I didn't want to open it just to make a video as its going in the special wing of the Future World Collection here is a short YouTube video of it in action below. Its pretty neat...I think

That’s pretty cool! YEARS ago, I knew a guy who restored and scratch built windup trains and they’ve always fascinated me.

Wow, scratch built wind-up toys. Wish he had a web site back then to see his works.

The guy’s name is (or was?) Ted Lanham and he actually had a museum in Nashville TN. A quick search didn’t turn anything up on him. I’m not sure why but I’ll try to dig around some more.
