Got A Brazlian :D - Nigels - 06-08-2018

Well this is the first I've seen of one of these, but I actually got myself a Brazilian outline class U-20-C Diesel loco and what's more its even manufactured by a Brazilian company called 'Frateschi'!!

Very nice looking loco to my eyes, it's heavy, all wheel drive and has working lights front and rear Smile

Cool! Even though I’m not an expert, the nose and cab immediately let you know it’s a GE “U-Boat”.

RE: Got A Brazlian :D - Nigels - 06-08-2018

Yeah I have to say it does look like several of the USA designs, so I assume the real life loco is probably sourced from GE or similar. But I thought it was just quite a nice loco and at the price I paid a bargain Big Grin

Well that sure was some click bait!!
Very nice!...but definitely wasn't what I was expecting! Wink

great find, nigel. must admit the title had me wondering for a bit, lol.

frateschi makes a lot of new zealand based engines, which is what yours appears to be. it is a GE based engine.
i assume they make engines for most railroads that share the same or similar body type. i dont know much about them, except locally they command huge prices due to being the only company to match local rolling stock so closely.

the photo above is myself and my kiwirail driver friend blair [who has the thomas HO layout i mention now and then] he took me for a cab ride a couple of years back in DXB 5051.

Thanks for the photo and info Sun. I’d never realized that New Zealand used Cape Gauge.

It’s funny how long lived many of these GE U-series locomotives are in countries outside North America. Here in the US, you almost never see them, even on smaller lines.

Interesting info there sun, just goes to show how things work out. This one I got was listed as being a Brazilian outline loco and was according to the box manufactured in Brazil, but that's about all I can tell you about it as the instruction sheet is missing.

Curious they would bring high prices over there I got it for the bargain price of £22 Smile
