Help With This - Trackmaster-Rail-Yard - 06-17-2014

For the longest time I have been wanting to add a light in to this freight car or brakevan of my Trackmaster trucks. I know a lot of you guys have done this with locomotives but I wanna try a truck. Preferably one of those little multi colored vans you get with Trackmaster Locomotives. I would like to add a light into the car and have an LED shining out of the rear of it. If any of you know how please let me know, I don't even know if it's doable, so if you know how or have an idea, please let me know. I know that Tramp has done this, and I wanna know if any of you guys can help me, Smile thanks :

Have you perused our resident lighting experts (Tramp) Mod thread? He has done what you are asking. http://www.blueplastictracks.com/showthread.php?tid=141

Yes I have seen most of them, they are amazing Wink. The only thing is I don't have the slightest a idea on how to do this with trucks and I don't think he has tutorials on them, it'd be easier if the car wasn't so small, so I would like to find some more ideas and tips before I jump into this custom

A lot of his photos and how tos didn't make the migration to the new Forums. Check out these and see if any help you and maybe he will be by to answer your questions. He is the lighting master. http://s270.photobucket.com/user/natlouise14/library/tomy%20trains?sort=3&page=1

Oh, thanks Smile I just need to know now how to power the LED , how I could in such a small car

RE: Help With This - Super - 06-17-2014

I believe he uses a 3 volt button cell battery like the one below, for that brakevan to power the led lights.

Tramp use to have some nice drawings of how to do wiring on these trains. Why not send hime a message as I am sure he could tell you exactly what you need and he likes to talk wiring as he is so good at it.

Hi T-R-Y
I've got a brake van I've been wanting to convert, I'll post some pictures when I do it,

But yes, the single screw on the bottom holds the top half and the chassis together, I'm sorry but I don't have any other photos of the conversion other than what super has posted,

Yes I did use a 3v button cell to power it

What you need for the conversion.....
X1 - 3v button cell
3v button cell on eBay

X1 - button cell holder
Button cell holder on ebay

X1 - switch
Switch on eBay

X2 - 3mm red led's (and you will need a 3mm drill bit to drill the hole if you don't have one)
LEDs on eBay

X2 - resistors (47 ohm for a red led)
Resistors on eBay

And some wire, I like using 30 AWG in black and red
Wire on eBay

You will also need a soldering iron, solder, wire cutters/strippers and heat shrink.

I then wired it as per this drawing

When I do my next van I'll take photos,

& It certainly is do-able

Tbh I like the dual led brakevans but the batteries don't last overly long, the last van I did I used a single led and it lasts longer,

Mine didn't seem to work, the van wouldn't open. The chassis won't come off

RE: Help With This - Ucwepn - 06-18-2014

Yes I have a very new one too and I could not open it, seems they glued it together as well.
