Orange Duck knockoff - MuddyPoppins - 09-22-2017

Our friend Bkvir208 just sent me a link to this on eBay!!
I have seen many Rusty knockoffs with "southward" on his side, but Rusty is naturally orange, so it's not really so spectacular...but seeing Duck molded in orange is absolutely fantastic!! And the accompanying tender is the icing on its cake!!
Does anyone recognize the tender design and knows what it may be knocked off from?
THANK YOU BKVIR208!!Big Grin

The tender looks like a flip face or a r/c version of Hiro idk tpgujt

RE: Orange Duck knockoff - Super - 09-22-2017

Its the same tender that this knockoff maker who sometimes uses the name Dumica uses for all his trains and like the one pictured whether the train needs a tender or not. In this picture you can see 5 of them, 3 orange, 1 blue & 1 black all made from the same mold I believe. Beware, these trains and cars are a bit bigger than the normal Plarail. I had a thread somewhere with comparison pictures I will see if I can scrape it up. Also these are built very cheaply. You can get them pretty cheaply (China) at AliExpress for around $13 - $14 with free shipping. https://www.aliexpress.com/item/D556-Free-shipping-Thomas-high-speed-train-single-electric-TOMY-gm-model-train-harmony-birthday-gift/32329099931.html?spm=2114.search0104.3.54.k50o0q&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_2_10152_10065_10151_10130_10068_10344_10342_10343_10340_10341_5560011_5550020_10307_10137_10060_10155_10154_10056_10055_10054_5470020_10059_10532_100031_10099_5460020_10338_10339_9916_10103_10102_440_10052_10053_10107_10050_10142_10051_10324_10325_5380020_10326_10084_513_10083_5370020_10080_10082_10081_10178_10110_10111_10112_10113_10114_143_5570011_10312_10313_10314_10078_10079_10073-9916normal#cfs,searchweb201603_16,ppcSwitch_5&btsid=5ffaeb8d-6126-4d2e-a0de-082014e43b2c&algo_expid=df06b711-b858-4d1c-8f2d-bac77825cf80-7&algo_pvid=df06b711-b858-4d1c-8f2d-bac77825cf80

There are comparison pictures near the end of this video. Except for the color I believe the Tenders are identical

The name Dumica may be used for the non-Thomas line of knockoffs

RE: Orange Duck knockoff - MuddyPoppins - 09-22-2017

Thank you Super! It was less than $12, so it's fine if it's a little junky. I remember the dumica line and that they are slightly larger, but it seems like the larger models are the non-Thomas designs...with exception of Thomas, the rest seem to be made from a standard sized mold, though I'm sure the quality and gauge of plastic used is thinner and cheaper.
If you can find a Thomas character side by side size comparison I would love to see it.

RE: Orange Duck knockoff - Super - 09-22-2017

You can get a pretty good idea about size looking at that Tender which is the same size as the non-Thomas ones. That Duck copycat is even bigger than that and I believe they all use the same engine chassis. Just look at his wheel base compared to his shell. If I remember correctly the wheel base is about the same as Plarail. https://www.blueplastictracks.com/showthread.php?tid=1618&highlight=Knockoff

This may be the Thomas Knockoff that is closer to Plarail size. This one isn't in the same family as the one you pictured but still is a tad larger than Plarail but not as large as the ones like yours. RE: Orange Duck knockoff - leylandvictory2 - 09-23-2017

From my facebook page,

As you can see the knock off train has the same gauge as Tomy trains.

Yes they all use the same engine chassis.

The knock off tracks are compatible to tomy. The switches on the knock off tracks use white plastic while Tomy uses yellow plastic.

The knock off tracks are some what sturdy but the engine on the hand is fragile. Also the knock off are too high to enter the tomy tunnel. The rolling stocks barely clear the tunnel. They can be coupled to tomy trains. However the wagons are way bigger than tomy's.

RE: Orange Duck knockoff - Chrizzly - 10-09-2017

The tender could be good for a custom Sam I think, if the couplings were at the opposite ends. Just looking at that tender and I'm seeing a Challenger/Big Boy. Anyone else agree?

RE: Orange Duck knockoff - leylandvictory2 - 10-09-2017

The coupling can be modified eelatively easily.

RE: Orange Duck knockoff - Chrizzly - 10-10-2017

I know, but the real challenge would be making a articulated Sam that would fit through tunnels and round tight bends. If anyone manages this please leave an image or better still, a video of it running.
