Trackmaster 1 Talking Thomas variant - MuddyPoppins - 01-20-2017

It never ceases to amaze me that even after 5 years since the original Trackmaster line was discontinued, that there are still things left to discover...
I just realized that the 2009 Talking Thomas is different from the 2012 model!

Discovery is cool. So is the difference only in the battery cover or is there also something else?

It does have the wheels with with holes in them too...also looks to be made of cheaper, thinner plastic, and possibly a very slightly lighter shade of blue...IDK though...I just ordered it, so we will have a comparison as soon as it arrives!!

There was also another variant released in a Bust Through Mine Tunnel set, with a red coal truck instead of a grey stone truck:

Also, the earlier talking engines with no wheel holes do not start moving as soon as they are turned on. Instead, they are programmed to stand still, wait for the button to be pressed, say a phrase and then move. My Gordon, Salty and James are in this earlier format.
