What the heck, it works! - Off The Rails - 01-06-2017 Amusing story.... While setting my account, I was having trouble uploading a photo for my avatar. When loaded directly from my iPhone, the image displays upside down. But hey, I'm "Off The Rails" so having and upside down locomotive for an avatar actually sort of works! The engine itself is a Baldwin 2-8-2 Mikado built in 1925 and serving until 1961. It was one of the last US steam engines in regular revenue service and served its original home road as number 300 for its entire career. That home road was the Bonhomie and Hattiesburg Southern, a shortline railroad based in southeastern Mississippi. While no longer in running condition and sadly having suffered from neglect for years before a recent cosmetic restoration, #300 is displayed outside the local passenger station, right next to the yard where it served its career and within a short distance of the office building and locomotive shed of the former railroad it served. Thank you for the kind offer Super, but I think it's kind of funny and fits my user name too! ![]() |
