Thomas carriage with two hook couplings ? - locusttwitcher - 12-30-2016

Hi All
One of the carriages in a second-hand collection I bought for my son has hook (not loop) couplings at both ends. As far as I can see, it is designed this way, not a botched repair. I can't find pictures of a similar carriage online, and wonder if anyone can shed some light on it? It is little more olive green than shown in the photos.

On the underside it is stamped:
MADE IN THAILAND
© Britt Allcroft
(Thomas)
Limited 1999

Internally is has part numbers 9R593 P01 and 4R331 P01

Thanks in advance,

Best wishes

Tom

That would be from the Dodge and Splatter set. Both Dodge and Splatter in this set are motorized and with the use of this middle coach enables the train to move in either direction depending on which motor is switched on. Did you get a Dodge and Splatter too?

Hi Super

Many thanks, mystery solved! No, unfortunately we didn't get the engines.

Tom

Well it should work with any two engines.

Also, even though the coach is dated 1999, the coach was actually released in 2000. This is because in in 1999, the Donald & Douglas Snowplough Set was released only in Japan and one of the items it included was a green double hook ended works unit coach. Then, when Splatter & Dodge were released, TOMY used the same base for the coach included with Splatter & Dodge for Plarail and Tomica World.
