Lego Compatible Trains? - Nigels - 12-01-2016

Has anyone seen or bought any of these brand of 'lego' trains?

Just curious as some of them look pretty cool and are very keenly priced, some nice interesting models too such as wild west types and USA locos etc...

Non-Lego Train Set

No. However there are other trains that fit on the lego trains.

I've actually seen many "knock-off LEGO" sets that have trains that work on LEGO tracks and use LEGO train wheel elements. I couldn't tell you the brands, but I bet you'd find them somewhere. I also know that there are some sets of instructions online for different types of LEGO trains, in pdf, physical, and video tutorial forms.
I've also heard of a website many times called Big Ben Bricks which, from what I can gather while still being too lazy to look it up myself, LEGO trains, especially wheels.

Do you know Beanmeister22? He used to have videos on all of these brands that showed how good (or bad) they really were before you bought them. There were also comparisons between each one, including track systems and specific engines/rolling stock.

Big Ben Bricks is a company that produces third party, LEGO compatible wheels for building realistic steam engines. Their wheels actually predate the official ones made for #10194 Emerald Night.

I decided to dip my toe in the water and bought this set from Amazon;

No sweat Super I'm a lego ninja, been making the things for decades lol!

And Super just to prove my point here's some pics of the assembled train (no video AC as there's little point as the one down-side of these sets are that they are not motorised - although they could be).

In the set there is the loco, tender - which is a bit odd as it looks like a diesel and a tanker wagon. In addition you get a set of points and 9 pieces of straight track which are totally compatible with the current genuine Lego track. There's also in this set a single mini-figure of a cowboy type driver.

Anyway overall I would highly recommend this brand (Ausini) having tinkered with all sorts of different 'compatible' brands of bricks I know the quality can vary greatly. Some are almost or as good as genuine Lego, others have issues with 'grip' and won't stay assembled, some are just not quite the right fit, warped or even just moulded incorrectly, some are even made of a slightly 'soft' plastic which deforms and again does not grip right.

Well I have to say the Ausini brand seem to be superb and apart from lacking the little Lego logo's on the pins you would never know they are not the real deal. They clip together tightly and do not come apart easily, I had no mis-molded/soft/broken or missing bricks. Overall I would recommend this brand very highly for quality and value for money. Of course if you want to motorise these using the lego functions it would add to the cost, but they would still be at least no more expensive than the real thing and probably still a lot less.

Anyway here's some pics of the finished items;
