I used a gold craft paint that was non acidic...and took my time.
The coupler however was left over from experiments with dyeing trains and cars chassis using Rit Dye..
I actually do have another effort that I searched for but couldn't locate yet of a Thomas that has been dyed dark green...
That coupler was from magenta on blue to make a purple train...

dying couplers, thats a good idea. more permanent than paint. so you just leave them to soak for a while? incredible.

No..it's way trickier...the dye is boiled, and the plastic is put into the boiling water for only seconds!!!
Those seconds are critical to wether you get a perfectly dyed object or a warped ruined project..
I discovered the process on YouTube. There is a woman who restores old toys and she used this process to color match the plastic pedals on a vintage child's bike...
I will dig around for some examples to post tomorrow..

That gold Thomas Mod is awesome. The paint is beautiful and the color math on the box car is perfect. Did you use Airbrushing to spray on the gold and his widows look perfect. I like the fact that you left the windows and chimney Thomas blue as it adds a perfect contrast. I am surprised that this is your only mod as you did such a great job and you seem like a natural.

No just acetone free spray paint...
and a plastic friendly paint/polish remover on the boxcar..(I believe it was painted red with a grey top)...getting it blue w/a qtip in all the lines was a pain in the caboose!!
