RC Spencer - Hopslam - 07-06-2016

Hello everyone. Been browsing this site for awhile and decided to register to hopefully get some info. I'm a dad whose 3 year old is a big Thomas fan. We had ~20 or so trackmaster trains from when my oldest(9 now) was into Thomas awhile back and now have added to the collection substantially. My 3 year old watches the videos on youtube kids and I've discovered all these different characters. I enjoy trains and collecting myself so we've acquired just about all the trackmaster line, save for some really rare stuff and newer crappy revolution stuff I don't care about.

So this past weekend at garage sale I came across a 3 speed RC Spencer in great working condition. I didn't even know this existed and had never come across one while buying on eBay. I had only seen the Thomas and James but after a Google search saw there was also a Gordon. Were these like an extremely limited release? I feel pretty lucky to have found one.

First of all, how and when did you get your hands on the first generation of TrackMaster? They've probably become really difficult to find thanks to the awful redesigns.

These were not limited releases. They were sort of like the talking and single-speed RC engines. However, be careful with the Spencer, because it could easily malfunction and lose control like Leokimvideo's Thomas, which he once bought but never opened/used until one of his knock off/"Dark Side" videos.

When you say first generation, do you mean the kind before the new Revolution? If so, I've bought a good number of them on eBay.

The talking engines seem pretty prevalent on there. I had just never seen RC Spencer before at all or even knew he existed.

They were a very short production run and demand was poor at the time thus they were discontinued making them now quite rare.

I have each of the 3 speed RC engines and must say it seemed like when I was trying to get them Spencer and Gordon were the hardest to find. Also something to note, at least for the two I have had of the Gordon variety. The controller is very difficult to move. I ended up taking it apart and shaving a bit off the plastic bit inside. It is very smooth now, but there is a hole in the sticker. Undecided

Great find though. Big Grin
