Vintage Plarail C-12??? - MuddyPoppins - 07-01-2016

Hello everyone, I am hoping someone can help me out about this one...
This C-12 came in the lot today, and when I turned it over to open it I was met with an odd undercarriage that I'd never seen...then I noticed the front hook, but when I finally figured out how to open it I found this even crazier all metal drive unit inside too!! I am thinking this is a real oldie, but would appreciate someone's real expert opinion???

im going to say that is fairly old... 70s? it has that gear in the last 3 photos that makes contact with the tyres and drives things. my merry go train has the exact same set up.

its actually very similar to all engines in that range, except they dont have the enclosed gears. they are exposed like the old magnetic tomy trains.

looks like a nice piece. would love to see it with the top on, too.

thats nice. does it run? great find, and i hope someone can shed more light on it for you Smile

Yes it runs greatSmile There is no on/off switch!! It seems like it uses the C-cells own weight to activate it when it is placed upright??

One of the cleanest examples of this type I have seen. Isn't this the on/off switch?

Ok people... We've got one "maybe 70's"...I am hoping for a bit more info before I allow this thread to die...ty

I know we have talked about these metal engines before but I can't find the thread. My guess is that these types are the first motors made but I would think that at least Geris, Jdog or Plarnold may know exactly.

EDIT:
Did find this thread http://www.blueplastictracks.com/showthread.php?tid=279&highlight=metal+motor
