Mom's Grad-Gift!: Kintetsu Urban Liner - Miksolo - 06-24-2016

IT CAME 2 MONTHS EARLY! WAT?!

Anyways, I'm extremely happy to say that I now have my first non-Thomas Plarail item! (Which I'm going to turn into a Thomas character anyway, but, you know -- it'll be true while it lasts.)
I was very excited to have this in my hands, and I don't know what else to say other than that I'm grateful for my amazing mother.
The pictures aren't too great, sorry, I was in a bit of a rush and just couldn't get the whole thing in shot with my phone.

A few questions for anyone who may know:
Is there anything special about this train I have? I thought it would be a normal one, but I remember users of the site talking about multi-speed PlaRail trains, and this appears to be one of them, but I wouldn't know.
What appears odd to me is the irregularly shaped drive unit, the blue switch, its insane speed (insane for me at least), and the switch sometimes getting stuck in an on or half-on position.

These type of plarail trains (express or shinkansen types) typically have the two speed motors. The newer ones run on an AA battery the older ones a C type battery. Generally the latter are way quieter in my experience and one of my favourite motor types made by Tomy Smile

Sometimes they will have a sound chip and/or working headlights as well, although I don't think this particular model does - although correct me if I'm wrong.

Overall a nice loco to start your plarail collection.

This one is just a runner, no lights or sounds, and while it isn't the quietest, it isn't the loudest either. Thank you for clarifying the type of drive unit, Nigels!

Are these types of Kintetsu Urban Liners rare, because it didn't mention anywhere that it was 2-speed, and I got it for only 52 dollars as opposed to every other listing which started at 1,000 dollars if I remember correctly.

Very nice Miksolo. I know you have wanted one of these for quite some time.

I sure have, and I'm very lucky that my Mom snatched it before anyone noticed. Big Grin
Now I'll just need an airbrushing kit, some dark blue gloss enamel, and some small letter stencils. I think I'm gonna let this one stay faceless for a while tho. I hope to get the DD51 next, which will be turned into Derek, but I may buy an extra at some point, along with a D51 and one of the tram-ish looking 3-car-packs.

This wouldn't work on the Treasure Chase set, and may be extremely difficult to find for a decent price unless in a lot from Jauce.

Because, "it's here!"

No way! They made the Kintetsu 20000 in Plarail?!

I'd be tempted to paint it black so it'd be Takeshi's Train from Densha De D.

I don't know what that is, but I don't think they're the same things. I looked up the Kinetsu 20000 and it looks more boxy than streamlined.
