New Clones?: Amtrak, Santa Fe, BSNF and NYC MTA. - eilif - 04-25-2016

I was browsing about and I found these four clones.

BSNF container train

NYC MTA Subway

They seem to be a bit better than the knock-off diesel that I bought last year.
Better paint, more variety, and more interesting trains accessories. I especially like the the Subway seciton and elevated trainstation that come with the Amtrack and NYC sets. Still, $40 is almost the cost of two actual PlaRail trains, so the value isn't entirely certain.

One somewhat nice thing is seeing that some of these might not even be clones as companies push their accessories, tracks and trains further away from Plarail copies.

These aren't new, in fact we talked about these quite a while ago but I can't find the thread. Some one here had purchased the subway train I think and did a video review and of course I can't find that either. Anyone else remember where we discussed these at?

Good to know.
I'd love to see the review if someone can find it.

Interesting.. The track system seems to be a strange cross between the rounded connectors of Wooden Railway, the height, length and overall style of Tomy, and the sleeper detail of the old TrackMaster. The way the trains' wheels are set up (as well as where the power units are) reminds me of Daiso. For that reason, the power units might not be able to run on Tomy track (as I saw in a video by XtremeTrainz).

The gauge on these trains are different than tomy trains

Those trains and tracks are almost identical to the Daiso range of trains and accessories. In fact if you look at the photo's of the last set and compare it with my pictures of the Daiso products I recently purchased you will see the track not only has the same connectors it also has the 'brick' effect on the edges. Similarly the trains/rolling stock have 8 wheels/4 axles just like the Daiso range, so they are almost certainly made in the same factory.

This is for sure not a bad thing as the Daiso trains and track are reasonably well made and detailed and even if not compatible with Tomy give you some nice expansion options at very very cheap prices Smile

As above they look like they are from the Daiso range or copies of using the same track & mechanism etc, the middle cars are powered and the amount and size of the wheels is a giveaway Smile

And talking of knock-offs how about this one off eBay uk;

Thomas Light & Sound

Looks similar to the chassis of the Dumica sets as it looks large and has those two front lights, the on/off switch is in the same place and those trees are a match also. Bet it came from China like the ones I bought.

Probably Smile
