Not consignment stores. They buy your items at "fair prices" and resell at "reasonable prices". I am not quite sure what define "fair prices" because reasonable price that I paid was ¥1,199 for a complete engine ?

What was your engine? I bought a complete Kintaro for 500 yen at a similar store (it had an underperforming motor tho).

The only reason why they sell it at 1000 yen is that they found the original 3 car formation and placed a straight rail underneath to make it more presentable. Fair prices indeed, but it depends on the train you are buying. Wait till you visit this cupboard. LOL!

And if you are lucky, you can find the intermediate car of an old Plarail for only 50 yen.

Those are beautiful display cases with some some gems inside. Do any of these fantastic resale shops have Online stores that ship worldwide?

But those shops who have these cases clearly know the rarity of the Plarail that are kept inside. It is BookOff Japan, I heard there is an auctioneer known as “bookoff2014” on Yahoo, so he might exhibit some Plarail in the future. I don’t think you can order these ones in the cases online, must come to the physical store.

well they have to pay for the rent, labour and other expenses.  There is a store ("Once Upon a child") near house has a similar business model.  I wouldn't say they are fair when it comes to buying your used toys.  They will try to low ball you and sell them a lot higher.  I feel safer dealing with the store than dealing with people on Craig's list.

Interesting enough, since Leylandvictory2 mentioned Once Upon A Child, I’ve had some luck finding older Trackmaster and Plarail items at our local store. Most of the focus is on kids clothes and such but there’s a modest toy section.

Of course, it’s NOTHING like these Japanese resale shops! Holy cow, that’s just amazing!
