Well Muddy, I don't know about this one with Annie and Clarabel version, but I saw a silver Thomas with slag cars in a video at the Expo. Apparently it will be limited to 100 pieces...

Shooting Star Gordon is TS-21. Speaking of these series numbers, TS-20, Luke, seems to be discontinued completely by now and replaced by Streamlined Thomas, but I can't find the Streamlined Thomas, nor Gordon, on Amazon, nor Luke anywhere! Usually the discontinued engines would still be sold until the stock runs out, and then immediately replaced by the new one carrying the number.
Also still would love to know some more about the set that supposedly includes Owen and Cranky!

I figured out what some of the text says on the set with Merlin.
ぐるぐるまわてう! = Make round and round!
トーマスとマーリン石の炭ホッパーセット = Thomas and Merlin stone charcoal hopper set
すすだらけ トーマス = Totally sooty Thomas
プラレール マーリン = Plarail Merlin
動力? = power
動力なし = No power
The characters in grey were extremely difficult to see clearly in the image, and I don't know Japanese. Fortunately, it turned out that translating "motorized" alone from English to Japanese turned up with a similar word to the ones underneath the red text, and adding it on to the beginning of what I already wrote for Thomas and Merlin translated to "power" and "no power", respectively. I'd say this confirms that Merlin is unmotorized. Perhaps the black slit on top of his cab means that he really will get a motorized release at one point, or is that just wishful thinking?

After spending an hour and a half (and therefore my free period and lunch) translating that advertisement and then looking for pictures of the set with Owen, Cranky, and Thomas, I've discovered that every already knew that Merlin is unmotorized.
