Back when ToyTrains4U's demonstration videos were done right (no music, no pointless special effects, etc.). I used to love how they showed each product in its "natural environment" without anything else around the layouts.
The pre TM2 Talking engines were geared to move more slowly than regular ones to make them easier to hear over the motors. Your best bet might be to convert one Flynn to 9V or replace him with a Plarail one (which is faster than TM).

Thanks laG, now why couldn't I find that? The one in the video seems to be just a little bit faster than the 2 I just repaired so I am wondering if there is still a little tweeking I must do.
I am just looking to get them running the way they were intended, not to make them fast. Besides I don't think using a 9 volt battery would work without a major rewire adding resistors and such to protect the 2 circuit boards in each train that run on 4.5 volt now. I will look into them a bit more but I am not all that concerned as I will just let them go for scrap if I can't get them running right.

Thanks for the offer AJ but you needn't bother. They will be sold for parts along with a lot of other stuff. I am not into the Thomas characters so there isn't any loss.

Actually the FisherPrice version that comes in the Cranky & Flynn set is the fastest of them all.
It was intentionally made and advertised as faster than the Greatest Moments and Talking versions.

i have that set with Flynn (the cranky is AMAZING) i have a normal FP Flynn as well. there is a wheel colour difference
