Yeah that was very odd to me that the seller listed it like that. The train that comes with it is identical to the one that comes with the Blue EF63 in the beginning of this thread with exception to the color scheme. I believe it is called Asama?

The hunt is on.

Back on topic of the Blue EF63’s.. so the two sound units I mentioned earlier are back up and going an all functions are working. I guess I just love the challenge but these are right on par with being as complex as he TnA engines.

I was able to use the switch from the other unit that I had which seems to have additional issues, but has been good for parts. I also swapped shells since it had a less abused shell. I may eventually paint the other shell as it could be interchangeable.

Here are a couple more reference pics Incase it may help someone.

Switch wires back up and connected to the circuit board:

This is showing the small with piece which goes under the gear, I was not seeing where this came from, then took the other engine appart very carefully and saw it to figured I better document it.

I will hopefully get a video up soon with both sound units running over her. I think it should sound pretty cool. Big Grin

I appreciate the close up pictures Ripley, it will be very helpful for any of us who may need to make repairs of our own.

That sounds Awesome and I had no idea they engineered this with that coupling sound, just fantastic. Nice work in restoring these gems Mr Ripley.

apart from the horn it does sound a little bit like a steam loco. well done getting it all sorted.

RE: Plarail EF63 Sound Set - Super - 01-31-2018

I thought the same at first but the more I listened to it the more it sounded like a diesel (which the EF63 is not) than an Electric Freight or Steam Engine. What was first thought to be the chugging sound of a steamer sounded more like the heavy metal wheels striking the joins of the rails. But I agree that Plarails sound could have been a little more defined as a Clickity - Thud - Clickity - Thud which would be more appropriate for this at least in my opinion. All in all, I think for the most part that Plarail does a fine job with the sounds in their sound units.

More EF63.. I picked up the EF63 12 Shell in a japan auction for a couple hundreds yen, then found a complete EF63 12 a few days later so snapped it up as well. One of the ones I have is all scratched up so thinkingi can maybe do a paint job on it and interchange the shells.
