I am confused about the boxes although I can not be of any help on whats original or not. One box looks very large and holds the tracks station and tunnels and I am not sure if both trains are included and the other box looks much smaller and may only contain Donald, Douglas and the middle coach.

Yep it looks legit!!
Still doesn't make much sense, but you end up with a brand new one!
Someone that can pull BNIB out of thin air is definitely not a bridge to burn!!
I'd send them back Gma's ASAP, Thank them for their understanding under the odd ciircumstances, and try to get them to send you more BNIB's!!
I'm sure they'll appreciate getting it back and will be more likely to accommodate your future needs
