Mattel, believe it or not, actually thought they were being "trendy" with the exposed wood Thomas (which was also a way for them to save money by cutting back on paint, making the trains smaller, etc.)

That’s pretty much what we do here at Chez OTR. My son told me several months ago that he really didn’t want any more Fisher Price Thomas stuff because he prefers Plarail now. The few exceptions are for engines that FP makes but Tomy doesn’t.

Bigjigs Rail should be compatible with Trackmaster. They even have a CN (Canadian National) Railway set.
