yes it was between the battery and the on/off switch.

See the red arrow in the image.  When I was testing everything there was no power getting from the battery to the on off switch, but if I bypassed that and just gave it 1.5V at the switch, it worked just fine.

@kmott,

I have a monorail as well but I haven't taken it apart and I haven't used it for quite a while.

I do remember one of these being inside a Plarail Advance ACS (remote control) car.

I believe it is an inductor. Taking it out shouldn't matter but I think it was designed to prevent spikes in the current when switching directions.

Next time when I take apart one with these components, I will measure it properly and when I know more I will post back.

So, laying aside the disappointment of this wiring trouble...how do you like your first Monorail set Kmott?

still dont know.  I havent had time to put it back together yet.  I did buy a monorail (no track) on Jauce, so either ill have 2 or a backup!
