RE: Ripley's T'nA repair thread - ripley802 - 10-07-2017

I was able to get Toby and one of the D10 back going tonight. They both had cracked gears.

I then thought "well those went smooth, let me take a peak at the other D10.."

Wow.. that was a doozy..Big Grin. Not too bad actually just not seen this before on a TnA engine. So it was reported that it was seezing up and clicking, possible clutch broken. Well, sir, you were spot on. IdeaWink

As mentioned I had not seen this before with the clutch gear cracked. I scavenged one from a TnA James gearbox that was opened anyway, looked it over, and would you believe it, same dang thing..., what the heck, two with the same issue and I had not seen this before, what are the odds. Well off to another TnA James gearbox, this one was intact. Actually I was thinking maybe it wasn't cracked and designed that way but then after seeing the "good" one, I conceded..Cool There was a second gear as well that was cracked. Back to the sacrificed James.. haha...

Second D10, all back together, tested, and working well now.

Here are the bad gears. I forgot to take a pick of the good ones, but you can see the crack in these.

That's great! The Gordon will most likley be the easiest, as I almost didn't even send it, as it works ok, but is just that it's kind of struggling...but it's the Holiday Thomas still to come that will be the most work though:/ heavily corroded Sad I just hope you can save it.

Looking forward to the challenge. Big Grin. I know I have plenty of terminals left...Smile

Two James's completed, cracked gears. Big Grin

RE: Ripley's T'nA repair thread - ripley802 - 10-09-2017

All done!!!Big Grin

The James that had the switch backward is and was being a real problem child...lol.. so much so that he may spend his days living on a shelf. I hate to say it..Blush

So he has the same issue as the D10 with a cracked gears in the gearbox. Bad thing is I did not have another one (worm drive type) to replace it. What I did was rigged one up with a regular gear on th shaft with the worm drive type gear. It worked and James goes and activates, but he is VERY loud. Also he is still a bit weak. This is one I spent several hours today on, and the a little bit this evening and finally got it to the point it is at now. If we ever come up with some spare gears it may be fixable to make it less loud. And if I can ever find out what makes these so slow that work help too.

Gordon was not too bad, needs a new gear ( axle gear ).

The Holiday Thomas is all good as well. 4 new battery terminals and a bit of a cleaning. Big Grin

After Shots of Holiday Thomas (battery terminals):

Looks like you are getting pretty good on those rivets Ripley.

RE: Ripley's T'nA repair thread - MuddyPoppins - 10-09-2017

Thank you!! 2 are UK, and 2 are Japanese correct? Which is it that's that's the problem? Holiday Thomas looks great!
Is that all of them? I've lost count! Lol

That's Super. Yeah, I have a sort of technique down now which works well but is a bit complicated and slower than I would prefer, but works well.

Sorry, yep there were two U.K. And two Japanese accent. The one with issues was the U.K. Version.

Yep that is all of them. I feel pretty good about all of them except the James. Some you may notice still slower and but for the life of me I cannot figure out why some are slow and some not. Huh I will keep playing and trying things out with some spares I have and if I come up with anything I will be sure and reach out or update the thread(s).

I would like to research a bit more and see if I can come up with anything more and then will get them packed back up and PM you.
