The faces of the Plarail AEG engines are, in my opinion, well made, as are the Fisher Price ones. Granted, so far FP has a lot more variations of the faces of the same characters (I think there are as many as 13 FP AEG Thomas at the moment), so it remains to be seen how Plarail will move forward.
The problems of Plarail AEG engines are:
- ugly wheels (though necessary for their loop version),
- squashed look of the engines (this shape does not match the shape of the characters from the TV series),
- almost non-existent middle wheel (drawn on the black part of the chassis), and
- stickers (the entire sides of Thomas are stickers, including the windows!)

The photo above is a photo of the old 3 way switch. I feel this old switch is like hitting a speed bump to a certain degree.
As for the Plarail's AEG line, the only good things I like about them are the fact they can fit under the existing tunnels and features a front coupling from the looks of it. When I first saw the image of the new line, I thought the engine is a knockoff. when i revisit the photo again, the AEG trains do reminded me of vintage plarail trains.

The new switch has been around for a long while. I bought one in 2014. It is indeed flat.
The photos on the websites haven't been updated though.
