Knock Off Light Up Elsa - DalaGStanator - 06-02-2016

Yesterday, I attended Shanghai Circus (Hebrew: קרקס שנחאי; it was held in Israel). During the 15 minute break, we went to see what goods we could purchase from the stunt performers, who got off the stage and sold Chinese toys and whatever else they had. While I bought a light up propeller on a stick, mom found and showed me this unlicensed Frozen toy which I didn't even see when I was looking around. I thought it didn't look bad for a ₪40 "dark side" toy, so I agreed to take it home.

It is somewhat strange in that the (turning) head closely resembles fake dolls by other companies (eyes and hair in particular). For some reason, her dress is an original design and she looks to be wearing a skirt over it. It also seems one of its designers decided to add cleavage, rather than giving her a flat bodice.

It takes three AA batteries in the back, with the third one hidden under the other two. There is no screw, so the cover just comes off even though there's a screw hole. The gold strings coming out the back of her neck connect her to the handle, which I don't know how long it would last. Since there's a plenty of screws holding the figure together, it doesn't seem like the type that would just fall apart in one's hands. I will not destroy it, especially since I plan to customize it to make it look better (more screen accurate).

Underneath is an LED light disk enclosed in a rotating dome with a magnifying pattern that spreads the light all around while in action (like a disco ball). In addition, it even plays "Let It Go", which I didn't expect for a knock off toy. It's a low quality sample that constantly loops, but at least it's Idina Menzel singing. Pity there's no way to turn it on without the song, because the light effect is highly impressive on its own (I don't want to kill the soundchip, though). That's the main thing I find wrong with it, as well as its loudness.

Overall rating: 3/5.

Very cool. Seems like every circus has a new light up toy when they come to town.

This knock off Elsa has since been customised and repainted, and now looks more like her actual counterpart (to me, at least). Other than the neck and hands being too pink compared to the head (and some of the hair coming off due to masking tape protection), I'm quite satisfied with the result. Before the repaint, I was almost going to cut the speaker bars deliberately and replace them with pieces of tape with poked holes, as they felt quite flimsy, but then I found out I didn't have to, so I just painted over the existing ones.

I may or may not create a separate thread detailing the repaint step-by-step.

I believe this is what they used (the beams look very similar):

They appear to be available on Alibaba, AliExpress and Amazon.

Yeah, I see a lot of knockoff toys when I go to the malls at Orange County. I saw a fake Elsa there too.

What did it look like? I don't suppose it could've been a similar type to this one, or as good as it. Was it another singing and/or light up style? I'd like to know, especially since mine had a story behind it and was actually awesome.
