I read it as physical shell prints that you're buying, which makes the site even more suspect because if they are of the sort of quality shown in the photos they are suspiciously cheap.  Also if they were to sell the files you can bet that those same files would soon show up on sites such as Thingiverse or other sites pop up selling the same physical models.

This is the one drawback to 3D printing if you are someone looking to make some money out of it, you need to guard your design files as though they are gold as once you let them out of your control you will likely never make much out of them again.  Either that or spend the rest of your life trying to sue people who are re-selling or re-using the files to copy your work.  Mind you in this case you could argue that this guy is infringing FP's or Tomica's copyrights, let alone the owners of the Thomas intellectual rights.  It's why Hornby no longer makes Thomas themed models as they gave up the licence due to the cost which was subsequently picked up by Bachmann.

Hi there! Im Jason, co-owner of magicjayroadprints. This is not really set up as a business, I talk about this in streams-

Here I explain why I have things priced so low and I included photos of the progress of models. I made the site to offer a cheap alternative to Shapeways, We make the models of the IRL alternatives to replace the already made tomy models, I can see where everyone may not trust the site, but I can show proof of where the money goes back into the models and that I do ship the models out. i just shipped a model out today. Also, i saw talk about the Edward/Oliver siderods, I do have those ready to put up on the site!

Thanks for the info Jason and I wish you the very best of luck with this endeavor.  It's nice to see someone selling items at a reasonable price for collectors of the wonderful Tomy models.  It may be worth mentioning on your site what chassis each shell is intended for as then potential buyers would know what it needs.  I can see the potential if you are offering more detailed models than the makers standard product and I hope you are successful.  What colour do you produce the shells in?  Are they prototypical colours for the target model (i.e. blue for Thomas) or just a generic grey?  Either way they are well priced, but it would help potential buyers if they know they will be required to paint them before use etc...

Cheers, Nigel

I may plan on getting those siderods when they're ready to be put up on the site.

The chassis, the are stated as tomy/tm percy or thomas chassis and i use the combo to let people know that its for the old style trackmaster chassis, all prints are sanded and primed in white/grey/unpainted, there is options to get it painted, you just have to leave a note on which paint scheme you would like, and me and the other owner will paint in said livery, of which the buy chooses!! Thank you for the support, it means alot.

Plarail works out well as they use the old style designs but they still make those unlike in the US. If I do Chassis donors like those, I'll be buying from Asia.

I will likely use the chassis of TS-01 Thomas or TS-18 Nia as chassis donors and use the body shells as spares as both have the right wheel configuration of 0-6-0t, the 14xx ones will get small modifications to fit the 0-4-2t wheel arrangment.

In an ideal world magicjayroadprints would be split from this thread into a new one all of its own.

I agree, it would make it easier to find in the long term and give members the chance to ask questions if needed and offer a good read for other potential customers.

@Jbdolan - simply pick the appropriate forum and create a new post with whatever info you want to put in it (for example a link to your site, mention the paint options etc...) and it may help everyone. Smile
