Back in my day, you had to spend a lot of money to get any good at a game. You could only play at Arcades and you had to feed quarters into the machine to play. To me there were better gamers back then because of this. The only game I used to play was Zaxxon and I got to be very good, at least in my opinion. Continually defeating it every time I played.

I remember playing Pac Man at the convenience store around the corner from house way back in ancient times. I’m old enough to remember when it was new!

My son and I play a stand-alone arcade machine at a local once-a-month antique/vintage/retro store.

Yeah the highest score I've ever gotten on Pac-Man Is like 31,590, Did in on an emulator, But it is the exact game from the machine only compiled into a format for the computer, it has the same properties same everything, There is a cheat mode but I never use it because it takes the fun out of the game.
Probably getting one of those Arcade 1-Up Machines with pac and pac plus for christmas4
UPDATE: Just got to level 7 w/ a Score of 35,240.
UPDATE (again lol): Level 7 again with a score of 36,890.
UPDATE 3: Level 7 w/ a Score of 40,070.
My new average I survive in Pac-Man is about up to level 6 - 7 sometimes 8 or higher.

Recently made it all the way up to level 8.
It gets tough.
I use a specific pattern each time to avoid ghosts and leave only 4 corners with power pellets and then I just eat them and finish the maze.

Also I will link a video that explains how exactly the patterns work.

Also My current score will be kept record of in the first post.

Isn't watching videos like that considered the same as a cheat?
Its helpful if you cant get past the first couple of levels, Plus not really because its still very challenging, the pattern only allows you to eat the dots and leaves 4 corners with the power pellets and once you get to level 5 the hardest pattern is what you must use and it can go wrong so its not cheating cause it doesn't make you invincible.
It only makes it easier to know what your doing.

Give me space invaders any day, I remember the first time I saw it (was brand new) I couldn't believe they'd made a computer that had such good graphics lol, prior to that the king was 'Pong'!!!!!

Mind you there is a new version of Space Invaders out there, uses one of those active matrix type displays is about 14ft high by 6ft wide and has two machine gun type controllers - talk about a sound and light show, boy its the original madness all over again Big Grin
Happily collecting things all my life... Big Grin

yup Area 51 was popular when I was a kid.  At school we play number munchers or word munchers.  I doubt the current generation ever heard of the muncher series.

My highest score on Galaga was like 75,000+
Games like this because of the way I'm wired due to me being on the spectrum and high functioning, I can pick-up on this stuff really well because of my intensified focus.
Just made it to level 10 on Pac-Man with a High Score of 42,520.
