Hornby Un-Rebuilt West Country Loco

This is another special loco, a limited edition produced and boxed nicely with a certificate. This depicts a West Country class loco in its original 'streamlined' form, in their latter lives these like the Battle of Britain class had the streamlining removed to aid maintenance. But I like most people like them in their original form

The main way to tell a West Country loco from a Battle of Britain loco is in the naming convention, the latter were named after RAF airfields, personalities or aircraft (i.e. Tangmere, Spitfire, etc...) whereas West Country locos were named for locations in the West Country, in this instance 'Exeter'.

Geesh...they might as well install a conveyor belt right from the Post Office to your door. Must be exciting times everyday when the doorbell rings with new packages.

Speaking of Ribbits...the train is frog green

That’s beautiful and my favorite version of the locomotive family! Also, the green livery and Southern name makes me feel nostalgic for another Southern Railway that I grew up watching as a kid. Too late for the steam era but the dark green or black high nose diesels, often running long hood forward, always fascinated me.

Thanks OTR, when you mention diesels do you mean the type 37/40's? Dual ended cabs with the big nose below the windows? If so they are one of my more favourite Diesels, although I'm more a steam lover as I like all the detail and when you see one in the flesh the smell of the steam and oil is something you can't forget, puts a shiver down your spine
