Complete (?) list of Advance trains issued

11 Replies, 16036 Views

With the demise of Advance, it seems appropriate to try to put together a complete list of what trains were produced. This is the latest version of my attempt. I'd be grateful for any corrections or additions. I've focused exclusively on the trains, whether they were issued individually or part of sets. I haven't tried to cover sets as such or any other things in the Advance range.

Product numbers are those that appear on the box. Where more than one product has been issued with that number I've followed the BPT precedent and added the suffix N or NN ... to the later issues. This does not appear on the box.

Info in the asterisked items is what I've been able to confirm from my own collection. Main sources for the rest:

Wow. I was looking forward to starting an advance collection, but now the prices will go through the roof. RIP Plarail Advance.
Collecting without a clue since 2010
Not necessarily. Takara Tomy will have discontinued it because it wasn't selling well enough so in the short term there's probably quite a lot of unsold stock out there which those holding it will want to unload. And in the longer run, 50 years after Hornby Dublo ceased there's still plenty of it second hand being traded at reasonable prices. So who knows.

I actually just saw the C-57 Steam Engine Advance version new in the box on Ebay for $15 plus $8 shipping from Japan so maybe not that bad. I have a feeling that in the last week I have seen more than usual Plarail Advance Listing in the Auctions of Japan especially used items. I also have a feeling that those who did switch over to Advance in Japan now want to get out of it and are selling while they can...just a feeling.
There are two movements going on from what I can see Super, a dumping of items that there is a glut of and a ramping up of prices of the more esoteric or recent shorter production run items. Some Advance loco's are now listed on eBay for upward of $60 new, whereas you say others are only $15 or so.

Second hand I would guess there is going to be a short term dumping of items by those who are either not fully committed to the format or have failed to complete their collections and now don't want to invest in a dead system. But longer term I reckon you'll see the prices going upwards.

Thankfully I think I've got all those items on the above list plus some of the more interesting items like the transit stations and of course the 'BIG station' and at some point want to build it all into a massive layout, its all just a case of finding the time and space lol!

But in the meantime I'm still going to be looking for bargains to add spares to my ever growing Advance set... Big Grin

Would the Thomas and Friends trains look good in the long and slender design of the Advance line? I always thought the regular Plarail/Trackmaster trains more resembled the show.
To a degree the bigger engines like Gordon would suit the advance format much better as would the coaches (as opposed to trucks), the smaller engines would be a problem as you need enough length to get the motor, battery, etc... in the body. You will also find all the advance trains are built on a universal set of chassis, they are not different lengths. So to do the smaller thomas loco's you'd need to re-tool/design the chassis.
