Is it just me...

Or does every single Plarail/Motor Road and Rail/Tomia World/very early Trackmaster Diesel have a black-tipped nose? Looking on ebay, it seems that all photos of Plarail Diesel have a chipped nose, and it was the same many years ago (probably when I was 6) when I saw my cousins' Diesel. If this is the case, should I just stop trying so hard to get one new in box?

ive noticed that too. it sticks out so far and is so pointy, even a mild impact will chip the paint. it should be an easy enough color to match, so you could one with a chip and do a touch up. wont be perfect, but certainly passable.

several others have a similar issue, but they are mostly saved by their buffers. diesels nose is past his buffers.

I had this in the front hook Dodge I recently picked up off of Jauce. I agree, the nose just sticks out to far. Maybe some touch up paint if a match can be found.

I'm wondering how I can mix paints to get the right color. For Spencer I just used some white and silver, but it looks very odd when you actually see it face-to-face. It's a bit too dark and shiny compared to the rest of his face.

you need to make a grey-ish color. get your white and just ad tiny dabs of black until its around the right shade. you may need some yellow or green too, but not much. silver is a metallic, which is why it would look shiny.

I never thought of this before. Now that you mention it the Diesel I had defaced had the same black spot on his nose. I used the term, deface, loosely as his face is not removable and is molded with the black plastic of the shell so it is actually painted on which would explain too, why the spot would show up. Not knowing the Thomas story's that well I had thought that the spot was part of his character. If the face were like the others and removable, a chip would not show up as it would be molded in the same color plastic. I would have loved to see a removable face as it would have made for an easier defaced mod of all the diesel shells like, Diesel, Paxton, Arry & Bert etc.
