My Layouts

Just posting some of my layouts. Firstly a standard 4 level up/down oval. Trains go up on the outer track and down on the inner track. Along the bottom you will need a 1/4 track on the short side to change from inner track coming down to outer track going up. If you have lane changers they can be well used on levels 2 and 3 opposite the up/down sloping tracks - changing lane will change train going up to go back down and vise versa.

Next is a more complex version of the standard 4 level up/down oval. It adds inner circles each end that can also be used to change the direction of the train and a quick decent option at the side.

Thirdly is the Triple Spiral Towers. There are lane changers between the closest two spirals. This layout and the above two are on a 180cm x 80cm table.

Finally I have a floor layout. If starting at the turntable and running anti-clockwise it goes in one lane each loop. To can then return to the turntable via the bridge. (Both bridges could be single track).
This is not my biggest layout but the biggest that could be in a single photo. Yesterday my son had a layout spanning 5 rooms and 62m in length.

Cool, very well engineered. Do you start with an idea in mind or just design as you go?

Super, I generally have a base idea but then design the details as I go. With the first two, the direction of the track is important if you want to add lane changers or stop/go track as those types of track switches can't be flipped over to change direction. The base 4 level up/down can be shortened or lengthened as required. For tight space you can reduce it to just the length of the sloping track plus the corners but that does require a 1/4 track along the top level or double track one end with the inside leading to nowhere. Very cool. I love all of the spirals. They can be a pain to do and take som Paitents. I wish I could find a good size lot of the double track risers and even the double track. Seems to be hard to come by though. Very nice job..

Why are so many Edwards, Henrys, Gordons and Jameses missing their tender covers?

easily lost, near impossible to replace.

Similar problems occur with me. Don't feel bad.

I have a few that were purchased second hand that had covers missing that are in these photos. Would be easy to lose. I use AA rechargable batteries in these tenders with C adapters - at least that makes the batteries look like cargo. Means I don't need C size rechargables either.
